GRADUATING IN STYLE Karthika Prasad

Portfolio 2010, the fashion show organised by Pearl Academy of Fashion, was all about style, elegance and oodles of attitude. The show choreographed by veteran Prasad Bidapa saw models showcase a collection created by 20 aspiring designers graduating from the Pearl Academy of Fashion this year. Each student had designed five garments, deriving inspiration from a variety of subjects such as Michael Jackson's dance moves, the Uttarayan festival, the dance form of Theyyam and the fascinating story of Cinderella.

The students spun out a wide collection for all age groups, featuring everything from cocktail dresses to casual wear, and from club wear to Indo-Westerns. Though the models carried the garments with grace, it was the young designers who stole all the thunder when they walked the ramp after presenting their collection.

The award for the ‘Most Practical Collection' was given to Jyotsna Satzoda for ‘As pure as the virgin soul' and Anusha Balasubramaniam for ‘Take a break'. The award for ‘Most Innovative Collection' was shared by Neha Jacob for ‘Cup of Solace' and Shruti Singh for ‘Dark Poise'. The award for the ‘Best Design Collection' went to Karthika Prasad for her ‘Expression — The Unspoken Language'.
