Bajrang Lal leads 34-member Indian team for rowing tourney

Chennai Star sculler Olympian Bajrang Lal Thakhar, will lead a 34-member strong Indian contingent at the Asian Senior and Junior Rowing Championships, to be held in Yi-Lan, Taiwan from November 2.

Lal would be defending his gold medal won at Korea in the biennial championship. The team consists of 18 seniors, 16 juniors and four coaches.

Indian international umpires Subrato Dutta from Bengal and Tamil Nadu’s Chacko Khandathil, have been nominated by the Asian body to officiate in the championship.

In 2007, India had won two gold and a silver each and four bronze. The team is scheduled to leave today from Hyderabad, where they had their training session, according to a release by M.V. Sriram, General Secretary, Rowing Federation of India here.
