Gopalkrishna Gandhi, former Governor of West Bengal, on Thursday called for use of animation to spread wildlife awareness and education among people.
Releasing a book ‘The spring of the Blackbuck: Writings on Wildlife and Conservation in South India,' Mr. Gandhi said visual images were very important for wildlife awareness.
Talking about the book, Mr. Gandhi said the cover of the book reminded one of cave paintings and in many ways it was M. Krishnan's book as it contained 28 of his articles.
Example of selfless service
Receiving the first copy, B. Vijayaraghavan, Chairman, Chennai Snake Park Trust, said the function gave him an opportunity to revive his contacts with the Madras Naturalists' Society (MNS). The organisation stood as an example for those providing selfless service.
At a time when non-governmental agencies were not supported by the government, the MNS was doing service without donning the mantle of activism, he said.
S. Theodore Baskaran, former Chief Postmaster General and naturalist writer, who compiled the articles in the book, said the decision to bring out the book was taken at a meeting held in Children's Park in 2000.
Kamini Mahadevan, consultant editor; S. Muthiah, historian; and K.V. Sudhakar, secretary, MNS, were among those who spoke.
