Maoists gunned down two village guards in Orissa’s Gajapati district, police said on Wednesday.

Armed ultras struck in Katama village under Adaba police station last night and dragged the victims, identified as Dinabandhu Mantri and Sadananda Singh, out of their houses to a nearby place before shooting them dead, Gajapati district SP Sanjeev Arora said.

Security force had been rushed to the area to bolster patrolling and start a combing operation.

A four-page message left by the Maoists warned against any special joint-operation against them, he added.
