April 23, 2010 01:46 am | Updated November 28, 2021 08:44 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

Income Tax sleuths visited the head office of the Sahara Group here on Thursday and are reported to have examined documents related to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sahara is the owner of the Pune IPL team, which is one of the two new teams for IPL-4 in 2011. The other is the Kochi team.

The visit is seen as a continuation of the department's exercise to verify the source of funds of the IPL franchisee.

However, there was no official confirmation by I-T officials.

Sources said a 12-member team visited the Sahara head office in the Aliganj area and are said to have gone through some papers related to the IPL.

Sahara had bagged the Pune team for a whopping Rs. 1,700 crore, the highest successful bid so far in the tournament.
