Officials of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) of the police investigating the terror recruitment case registered at the Edakkad police left for Bangalore to seek the custody of five accused in the case now in Bangalore jail in connection with the Bangalore blast probe.
The JIT officials led by Deputy Superintendent of Police V.K. Akbar left for Bangalore on Wednesday to secure the custody of K.P. Abdul Jaleel from Kadachira here, P. Mujeeb from Chakkarakkal here, U.V. Badaruddin from Ernakulam, Abdul Jabbar alias Sattar from Muttannur, Ernakulam, and Sarfraz Nawaz from Pallikkara, Ernakulam to be produced before the Additional Sessions Court at Thalassery on January 1.
Judge K. Babu had on December 18 issued production warrant to produce the five accused in the case who were in the custody of the Bangalore police in connection with the investigation into the Bangalore blasts.
When contacted Mr. Akbar told The Hindu that the team would also approach the Bangalore Additional Chief Judicial Metropolitan Magistrate Court to secure the custody of Thadiyantavide Nazir and Shafas Shamsuddin, now in the custody of the Bangalore police after they had been handed over to it following their capture by Bangladesh Rifles in the Indo-Bangladesh border earlier this month.
The duo are also accused in the terror recruitment case registered by the Edakkad police here. They had been brought by the Bangalore police to different parts of the State including many locations in this district as part of collecting evidence in connection with the Bangalore blast probe.
The five of the accused in the terror recruitment case, Abdul Jaleel, Mujeeb, Badaruddin, Abdul Jabbar and Sarfraz Nawaz, who are now in the Bangalore police custody, had not so far been produced before the Thalassery court where the trial proceedings in the case had begun. Eight of the accused who had been produced earlier were remanded in the Kannur Central Jail. They are Muhammad Nainar from Maidanappally here, K.V. Firoz from Kalamassery, K.M. Nawas from Thayyil here, V.K. Anas of Kunnathnadu, Ernakulam, S. Shaneej from Anayidukku here, Abdul Hameed alias Ameer Ali from Mattanchery, Sabir P. Bukhari from Perumbavur, Ernakulam and Muhammad Faizal from Thayyil here.
