Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan said there were attempts to alienate the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe sections from the main stream of the society.

Mr. Achuthanandan was inaugurating a public meeting held in connection with the valedictory function of the Sambava Maha Sabha (SMS) annual State meet near the new private bus stand here on Monday.

He said the society should be vigilant against the alleged attempts by certain vested interests to alienate the downtrodden sections of the society even through terrorist activities.

Spreading communalism among these poor downtrodden sections should be taken in all its seriousness.

The Chief Minister said the Left Democratic Front Government would provide land and home to all landless SC/ST families in the State in the next two years.

Mr. C.K.Arjunan, SMS district president, presided over the meeting.

Prof P.J.Kurien, Rajya Sabha Member, delivered the keynote address. Mr Raju Abraham, MLA, Mr Zakir Hussein, Municipal Chairman, Mr Konniyoor.P.K, SMS State general secretary and Mr K.ananthagopan, CPI(M) district secretary also spoke.

A rally was also held from the District Stadium in the town, earlier, marking the culmination of the four-day State meet.
