With the recovery of two more bodies from the rubble on Thursday, the toll in the building collapse near here rose to 10.

Rescue teams led by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Madras Engineering Group Army personnel, who are searching for survivors, pulled out five more people trapped under the debris. A total of 19 people have been rescued.

Seven bodies have been identified, officials said.

The under-construction five-storied building collapsed on an adjacent students’ hostel in Gandhinagar on January 26.

Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa visited the mishap site and also the hospital to enquire about the health of the injured. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 25,000 to each of the injured.

Mr. Yeddyurappa told reporters that stern action would be taken against officials who allowed construction of the building upto to five floors though sanction had been secured only for two floors.

Such cases of violation of building bye-laws and sanctioned plan are rampant in parts of the State and stringent action would be initiated against violators, he said.
