The State Government is carrying out the rehabilitation work in regions affected by rain and floods in North Karnataka. About 300 villages would be shifted, said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
He was addressing a press meet at Banagaramakki in Honnavar taluk on Monday after dedicating a golden shield to the Veeranjenya at Bangarammakki.
The Chief Minister said at Kadawad where over 19 people were killed in a landslip, 40 houses would be built to house the displaced family by Seva Bharati at Kadawad.
About Rs. 1,500 crore was collected from the donors by the State Government and it would be spent for the rehabilitation work in the State. About three lakh houses would be built at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh each, he said.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said Speaker Jagadish Shettar would join the Cabinet on Tuesday and the meeting of the Legislative Party would be called on November 18. Many central leaders of the BJP would attend the meeting. The Legislative Assembly would meet on December 18, he said.
The Chief Minister refused to comment on the move of his counterpart in Goa, Digamabar Kamat, who had contacted G. Janardhan Reddy to pressure the State Government to permit sand transportation to Goa.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said Mr. Reddy was in his Cabinet and parried the question whether Mr. Kamat was trying to gain by contacting him. He said the district in-charge minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri would take a final decision on quarrying and the sand transportation to Goa as both of these activities were creating environmental problems in the Western Ghats.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Kageri, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Halappa, Chairman of Planning Commission D.H. Shankarmurthy, Shimoga MP B.Y. Raghavendra, and Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd. Chairman Shivanand Naik were present.
