The chairman of People Democratic Party Abdul Nasser Madani is one of the six persons against whom the Bangalore police have filed a charge-sheet for his alleged involvement in the 2008 serial blasts in Bangalore.
A senior police officer, who is overseeing the investigation into the case, said the name of Mr. Madani was included in the additional charge-sheet filed on Friday. "We have secured enough evidence to name Mr. Madani as an accused in the case," the officer said.
The city police so far have filed charge-sheet against 32 persons, which includes the six mentioned in the additional charge-sheet. "Of the 32 persons, 12 are absconding. We are looking for three persons from outside the country," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar told reporters on Saturday.
As many as nine separate cases were registered in connection with the 2008 serial blasts in which one woman was killed.
The additional charge-sheet, Mr. Kumar said, has been filed against five persons from Kerala and one person from Karnataka. "Out of six, four persons are in judicial custody and two are at large. The police will take all necessary legal steps to secure the two persons," said Mr. Kumar without divulging the names of the six persons.
The additional charge-sheet, he said, also provides additional evidence against Tadiyantavide Nasir and Safaz, who were arrested on December 3, 2009, Mr. Kumar said.
The city police have recorded statement of Mr. Madani’s wife Sufiya. "We have not yet questioned Mr. Madani," Mr. Kumar said.
