The long-awaited meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to elect Chief Minister Konijeti Rosaiah as its leader will be held in the Assembly premises at 2 p.m. on November 27.
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and AICC general secretary in-charge of A.P. affairs M. Veerappa Moily will be the Central observers for the meeting.
As the CLP meeting has been convened at short notice and when the Legislature is not in session, the party is sending telephonic messages to all MLAs, MLCs and Members of Parliament belonging to the party to attend it.
In the absence of a leader, the CLP meeting will be presided over by the A.P. Congress Committee president D. Srinivas. A member of the Legislative Council, Mr. Rosaiah was hurriedly sworn-in as Chief Minister on September 3 without being elected as CLP leader following the sudden death of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) in a helicopter crash the previous day.
Another important item on the agenda will be the adoption of a resolution condoling the death of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy. Supporters of YSR have voiced criticism against the party leadership for not convening a meeting of the CLP so far to mourn the death of its leader.
