Kota Prasad, the 39 year-old son of veteran actor and former BJP MLA from Vijayawada East, Kota Srinivasa Rao, was killed when the sports bike he was riding hit a van at an intersection near the A.P. Police Academy here on Sunday.

Police said Prasad, who was riding on a steep curve on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), en route the international airport at Shamshabad, applied the brakes of the 1,000 cc bike suddenly on spotting the van coming on to the intersection. As a result, the bike skidded and came under the wheels of the van.

Prasad sustained bleeding injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital nearby by his wife and others, who were following him in a car. They were proceeding to have lunch in a luxury hotel near the airport. However, he succumbed to injuries and doctors declared him ‘brought dead'. The driver of the van, Mehmood, of Chandrayangutta was taken into custody by the police.

Prasad was himself an actor who made an impressive debut in a film ‘Siddham' directed by J.D. Chakravarthi, with Jagapati Babu as the hero.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah expressed his condolences, while BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu and the party's State president G. Kishan Reddy visited the hospital and offered their condolences to Mr. Srinivasa Rao. Secunderabad MLA Jayasudha, Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi also visited the hospital.
