The Srikrishna Committee set up to go into demands of “separate Telangana” and “united Andhra Pradesh” will begin personal interactions with the various stakeholders, including the political parties from April 16.
“All committee members would be present and we would give a patient hearing. All issues can be discussed,” former Supreme Court Judge Justice B.N. Srikrishna said.
The hearing will commence with a meeting with a delegation of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) here on April 16 followed by its tour of Hyderabad on April 22 and 23. There, the Committee will meet representatives of the Praja Rajyam, Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and some leaders from other political parties.
Mr. Justice Srikrishna said the panel had enough material to analyse on various issues with respect to the statehood demand as it had received over 60,000 representations from various persons.
The Committee, which had its meeting here on Thursday, ruled out extending deadline for receiving memorandum beyond April 10. “Officially, we are not going to extend the deadline. But, if some people want to give their views after that, they indeed can. Some people have asked for representations to be submitted after the deadline due to unavoidable circumstances. We will accept those,” Committee's Member-Secretary Vinod K. Duggal told journalists after the meeting.
The Committee had already begun its analysis work and some of its members would try to visit parts of Andhra Pradesh and interact with people on the issue.
Absurd demand
Praja Rajyam leaders C. Ramachandraiah and K. Vidyadhara Rao met the Committee and expressed their displeasure against the creation of Telangana. They said the demand for separate State was absurd as the entire region was not backward.
