Sura Cast: Vijay, Tamannah, Dev Gill
The noble people hath told you “Sura” was different and that Ilaiyathalapathi Vijay has innovated. If it was to be believed, you are at a grievous fault. The storyline is clichéd and the execution appalling. An honourable, honest-to-God fisherman fights for the people till justice is served and punishes the evil ones.
Same old story
When the poor cry, Vijay weeps and sees to it that the ends justifies the means. Storylines should be made of different stuff. But yet, they say “Sura” is different. You have seen it all in “Kuruvi”, “Villu”, “Vettaikaaran”, “Pokkiri” and much more; of how, the protagonist can defy logic, lead the people, fight off several evil ones and still romance his dumb damsel. But yet, they say “Sura” is different.
Of course, I speak not to disapprove of what Vijay did. I speak of only what I do know. You all did love him once, not without cause. He has his own charisma, energy and mass appeal whose potentiality he tries to tap time and again. But over a period of time, our man has gone from innovative to repetitive. Here is concrete evidence that speaks for itself: a lengthy fifteen minute build up to an introduction scene, a responsibility-neglecting police officer, terrible acting, an evil villain who gives us a wicked smirk that is supposed to send shivers down our spine, his million sidekicks who during fights attack Vijay one at a time with the others just making threatening movements, a lass who always conveniently bumps into our hero and romances him in as less than her second meeting, a comedian who would rather get beaten up or be crude, a worn out script, bad placement of songs, and ultimate use of the ‘suspension of disbelief' card.
Demand change
Good friends, let me not stir you up to such sudden anguish against the film and Vijay. Expect and demand change and sensible films from our industry. Here is an actor who showed so much promise during his early days but since then has time and again disappointed.
