A 43-minute DVD titled “Vegetarian Cooking for Diabetes” with inputs from Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad and Apollo Hospitals, Nandanam, Chennai demonstrates the preparation of vegetarian recipes for diabetics. Directed by Gopinath with script and recipes by Triveni Chandraprakasam, a doctoral research scholar, the DVD focusses on the following recipes — multigrain pan cake, steamed brown rice kolukattai with garlic sauce, mixed vegetable methi parantha and multigrain kesari.

Though there are several factors that cause diabetes, the disease has so far eluded a cure. But with a balanced diet, adequate exercise and medication, it can be kept well under check. While medication helps in the secretion of insulin, physical exercise helps burn calories. But these measures will not be effective if care is not taken to choose the right food, the quantity and the time at which it is consumed. A balance has to be struck when it comes to nutrition, quantity and taste. The DVD not only contains medical advice on the type of diabetic diet but also recipes and a demonstration of certain food.

Priced at Rs.150, the DVD is produced and marketed by Super Audio (Madras), Carex Centre, III Floor, 713, Anna Salai. For details, visit www.musicandchants.com
