Sri Kartikeya Gana Sabha, as part of the monthly music programmes under the series of Duddu Venkata Seshamma Memorial Concerts, presented a veena recital by Duddu Sitaramayya last week at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha's mini auditorium. Seshamma was the aunt and guru of Sitaramayya now the principal of Government college of Music and Dance, Secunderabad.
He was accompanied on the mridangam by Kapa Srinivasa Rao and by Jayakumar Acharya on morsing. Ninnu Kori a Mohana raga varnam, Sobhillu Saptaswara in Jaganmohini, Bantureethi in Hamsanadam were played in succession.
Sitaramayya then played the raga Saveri with virtuosi skills and presented Tayal Ni Maravate a Tamil composition of Arunachala Pillai. Marivere Gathi in Ananda Bhairavi of Syama Sastry in Misrachapu talam figured then. Pamarajana Paalini in Simhendramadhyamam. Sitaramayya chose to present Evarimata as the main number of the concert in Kambhoji .
He detailed the raga extensively and presented tanam and swaraklapana vividly in the kriti part. There was tani avartanam by the percussionist duo. He concluded his show with a bhajan in Peelu.
There was a short veena recital earlier by Vyzarsu Pavani, daughter and disciple of Seshamma.
She was accompanied by Mehar Sagar on mridangam. She opened with Natakuranji Varnam, Chelamela . Vallabha Nayakasya in Begada of Muthuswamy Deekshitar and Subrahmanyena in Sudha Dhanyasi also of the same composer figured in the early part of her concert. Nidhi Chala Sukhama in Kalyani and Koluvaiyunnade in Devagandhari, both of Thyagaraja, that followed were the best numbers of the concert.
