How it happened

I began singing at the age of five. I once shared the stage with popular singer T.K. Kala, when she performed near by my house for Vinayaka Chathurthi. I got in to light music after my friend violinist Mani put in a word about me to leading music troupes. This gave me an opportunity to perform with Kamal Haasan in 1993 in Singapore. My first song was for “Pachai Kudirai”, directed by R. Parthepan. The music was by Sabesh Murali. My major assignment as an actor was in “Sivakasi”, directed by Perarasu, who gave me the role after watching my play.

How it felt

Incredible! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw my name on the screen along with top singers' in “Pachai Kudirai”. It was a very satisfying moment. But, seeing myself on the screen was a different experience altogether. Though I had acted in “Sollamalae” earlier, it was “Sivakasi” that gave me more recognition. I watched the film with a bunch of friends, and I remember a lot of people approaching me with words of appreciation. After "Sivakasi", I did “Thalainagaram” and “Pazhani”. I'm now doing “Vithagan”, directed by Parthepan.

How life changed

At every stage of success, I've had a different approach towards life and career. I constantly look for something new and different. I owe a lot to my mother Rukmani, Doctor Sheshadri's family, and wife Srilekha Parthasarathy, a popular singer in her own right. I have a few singing and acting assignments, and I'm happy with both. But, I'm waiting for a song and a role that'll show my potential.
