Actor, writer and director Cochin Haneefa was an artist who straddled the best of Tamil and Malayalam cinema. He was a consummate comedian who could play a formidable villain with equal aplomb. However, this artist's gift was in his portrayal of the gray areas of human nature, which he did with an endearing sensitivity.
