Shahid’s next

Shahid Kapur is all agog about the only film he has on hand currently – Mausam directed by his father Pankaj Kapur. He has reserved his dates for long and he reveals that he almost gave up Badmaash Company for it too.

Shahid narrates: “When Adi (Chopra) called me to his office and gave me a script to read, I was in two minds about accepting the film because I was supposed to start shooting for Mausam earlier. And Adi wanted to shoot the film in three months flat. But when I read the script till the interval, I was very excited.”

But once Shahid shared with his dad that he had got an offer from Yash Raj, things changed. Shahid says: “I didn't have the guts to ask dad whether I should do it or not. But one day while having dinner he told me ‘You had liked the film, na? Do it. I will still take time to complete the script'.”

What made Anupam angry?

One never knows what can upset a celeb. Anupam Kher was recently shooting far away from Mumbai and was put up in a hotel. He says he found “a big weapon in my hotel room — a huge hair dryer!”

Long famous for his shining bald pate, Anupam now laughs about it. He says that he called up the hotel reception and complained angrily about the hair dryer, but fortunately “they came to my room, saw me and apologised.”

Bollywood films in Mexico

Ask Barbara Mori how aware Mexicans are of Bollywood films, and she says, “Hollywood is stronger than Bollywood back there. But when I came here, I realised that Bollywood is big. And now people in Mexico too will know about it when Kites releases there.”

Akshay's three funny directors

Of late, Akshay Kumar has been seen in a spate of successful comedies capped by the recent Housefull. And to think that the action star showed no trace of a comic streak when he first hit stardom in the early 1990s with Khiladi, Yeh Dillagi, et al.

We asked Askhay who he thinks is responsible for bringing out his comic timing and he came up with the names of not one but three people. One was writer-director-comedian Neeraj Vora (Phir Hera Pheri), another was director Priyadarshan (of Hera Pheri) and the third name was a surprise — intense director Rajkumar Santoshi.

But Akshay elaborates: “All the work that I have done with Rajji like Khakee is actually more him than me. He would tell me ‘Akshay yeh kar and woh kar' and I would just copy him. He is an amazing actor, if he starts acting, many actors will become jobless.”

Lone Bachchan at IIFA?

IIFA is one filmi event for which most filmwallahs make sure they leave space on their social calendars. The Bachchans especially prepare for the event with enthusiasm.

However, the Bachchans may not be there in full force to attend this year's IIFA in Sri Lanka. With his diary packed with appointment, it's still dicey whether Abhishek will attend or not and it seems Aishwarya is not going to attend as she is busy with her shooting. Moreover, matriarch Jaya Bachchan also had not been keeping well and may not be able to make the trip.

But Amitabh will have company in Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan this time around.

Hrithik dons the hat

Hrithik Roshan is not talking through his hat when he says he is not well-versed with fashion in real life. But when it comes to films, the star knows exactly what he wants. He plays a major role in deciding his character's look in a film.

Says Hrithik, “For Kites, I took a pencil and a paper and drew the way I wanted to be presented. It was my idea to have my character sport a hat in the film — that one accessory gives an added dimension to my character J.”
